A trip to Italy can make for a perfect holiday for anybody, replete with all the historical and cultural significance of such a place. Take a trip to Lucce for an amusing look at a Roman colony from years gone by. Sicily
Sicily is a city known for picturesque, Promethean volcanoes such as Mt. Etna, and this is probably the best reason to make this a part of your tour of Italy. In addition, Sicily offers a lot of prime spots to take in the Italian culture while affording you enough time to go shopping and stop for entertainment.
Venice
With its quaint Old World appeal and abundance of gondolas travelling the fluvial thoroughfares, Venice is another great city to visit. Sites to visit while in Venice are Ponte di Rialto, a sixteenth century bridge that offers terrific views of the waterways, opportunities for people watching, shopping and photo opportunities all from the bridge itself. Next, stop by St. Mark’s Square for a taste of Italy — quite literally, that is, as this spot is home to many an Italian cafe. The Basilica di San Marco is where Gallileo first presented his telescope to the public. The Venice Film Festival is hosted in late August or early September and can provide for great photo shots of the stars if you are in the right place at the right time.
Rome
Last, but not least, Rome is Italy’s most historic city and a centre in itself for ancient architecture and religious symbols. Rome is also known for it’s stylish clothing and residents, so dress appropriately but be sure to bring comfortable shoes or pick up a pair in one of the many high quality shoe shops found in Rome. The Colosseum would be the place to visit for a glimpse of Rome circa 80 AD, as during those days Roman emperors ruled by their whim and kept themselves and citizens alike entertained with sporting events, not the least gladiator competitions, and decidedly more genteel theatre productions. Make sure you drop by the Sistine Chapel as well. You might know it for its painted ceilings, courtesy of the great Michelangelo — these ceilings are an all-time classic piece of art. The Pantheon temple is also a popular ancient site and should be included in your travel itinerary.
